The Lymans Go to Washington: The Monuments

We joined a "Monuments by Moonlight" tour and sat on the top of the bus.  Luckily, this was the warmest evening we spent there.  Our tour guide was great, and it was nice to be bussed around after a long day of walking.

World War II Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

A couple days later, we saw the monuments by daylight.  We didn't see the Korean War Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, or the new Martin Luther King Jr Memorial.

This World War II Memorial was pretty neat.  It was so big we couldn't even get the whole thing in the same camera view without crossing the street.  We found Daniel's Grandpa Asael Lyman in the military directory.

This part was astounding.  There is one star for every 100 soldiers that died in the war.  "Here we mark the price of freedom" indeed.

The Vietnam Memorial was also incredible with walls and walls of names.

I think we were a little late in the season to experience the wonderful fall foliage, but this site did have a lot of lovely trees.

The Lincoln Memorial was magnificent.  So large!  Standing in front of Abraham Lincoln's statue almost felt sacred.

This is a memorial to 9-11, three jet streams representing the three planes that were hijacked.

Iwo Jima Memorial

Arlington Cemetery was beautiful.  We didn't spend much time there, but it was amazing to see hill after hill of these tombstones.  They never ended.

We barely missed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

A beautiful amphitheater in the cemetery.

The trees here were very beautiful as well.

Lots to think about at these sites.
